There are some driving games so convincing and enthralling that, after an intense play session, you find yourself instinctively straight-lining the local mini roundabout in order to nestle into the slipstream of a septuagenarian’s Toyota Aygo during your weekend supermarket run. Forza Motorsport 7 is now one of those games.
That would be the franchises most complete and diverse car list, featuring over 700 vehicles spanning 60 different manufacturers, 30 laser-scanned tracks, including 200 different ribbons, and the brand-new Forza Driver Cup campaign mode. Add to this the franchise’s most in-depth weather customization features, a new Car Collection progression system, returning-body kit presets from Forza Horizon 3 which has grown to feature more cars, and the game’s best physics and sound system yet, giving each car a unique feel.
From all the content included as well as the new customizable driver options to the expansive Forza Driver’s Cup Career Mode, Forza Motorsport 7 is also a massive game. This is by far the most complex and technically advanced Forza title to-date, and whilst on the outside it all sounds incredible, there are definitely issues on the inside. For starters, there are still bugs. From server issues in online to graphical glitches in gameplay, as well as sluggish UI navigation and in some cases, even game crashes and odd performance hiccups. These don’t break the experience, however, but they are a nuisance and something I hope developer Turn 10 addresses soon. I should note, however, that the experience is much smoother on Xbox One X, with faster loading times, less slowdown when navigating menus, and a more pleasant experience overall.
More important is the team’s exacting attention to detail and the technical ability to deliver ever more nuanced 1080p visuals locked at 60 frames per second. Even on a standard Xbox One there’s a solidity to Forza 7’s visuals that few games manage. And despite the increased number of vehicles not translating into meaningful new racing categories (truck racing is one exception, entertaining to the point of encouraging anyone ideologically opposed to this barbaric practice to at least reassess their moral stance), the game is deliberately structured to deliver a more dynamic single-player experience than past Forzas have managed.
With Forza Motorsport 7, you have the biggest and most-varied car list of the franchise. With 700+ cars, ranging from high-spec supercars, to powerful SUV’s, going to vintage racers and JDM Drift cars, there’s something for everyone. What’s more, you’ll find the most complete roster of cars in Forza Motorsport 7. Comprised of most of the cars from previous Forza games, with a few exceptions noted, you’ll need weeks to be able to explore and fully immerse yourself into all of the cars available to drive.
Forza Motorsport 7 earns a solid 8/10 from FullThrottle for its excellent gameplay, stunning visuals, dynamic track conditions, and the new structured Career and Car Collecting experience. Forza Motorsport 7 is available worldwide on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC as an Xbox Play Anywhere title, and takes full advantage of the Xbox One X as the platform's definitive racing showcase. If you want the ultimate automotive playset with dazzling visuals, beautiful dynamic features and both an accessible and competitive racing experience.
